Phone calls on numbers issued through Twilio. Whether the number is Canadian or US, a call arriving on one is carried on our US media node, because Twilio has no Canadian point of presence. A Canadian number we issue through Telnyx is delivered from Telnyx's Canadian gateway to our Montréal node and answered there. Every call your workspace places is originated from our Montréal node, whichever carrier carries it.
Speech on a voice engine other than the Canadian one. New Canadian workspaces start on the all-Canadian engine, and if yours has chosen a different one, its speech recognition and speech synthesis run in the United States. The language model runs in Montréal on every engine but one: the realtime Gemini Live engine listens and speaks with a single model that Google does not serve from Montréal, so on that engine everything runs in the United States, and its label in the engine picker says so.
Some coordination, payment, email, and telephony services run in the United States either way, and two more leave Canada without going there: our error diagnostics rest in Germany and our infrastructure telemetry in the European Union, because neither provider operates a Canadian region.
